I'm assuming the Consumer Free version? Make sure they update to the latest 2017 release :) We use it on the MSP side and I have been nothing but impressed. If you are looking to provide managed AV for people, and have them pay you, go with Webroot. Our techs have a checklist of the features and settings to disable, such as pop-ups and outgoing email advertising. In our repair shop we have been installing Avast free for the past few years. I love Sophos home as well, but the way it is designed is going to make it an illlogical choice for a repair shop environment. You can also control the duration of notifications, too. Avast 2017 has silent mode which disables notifications when running fullscreen apps, and "Game Mode" which, while being more optimized specifically for gaming or high intensity apps, can be used for the same.
I'll create some instructions and put a shortcut on the desktop or spend time with them when they collect. My last customer provided me with their email address and a password so I created an account for them and installed it on their machines. Download the installer to your computer and install Sophos Home. Log into your Sophos Home account and the following web page will appear.
